Enneagram 6 The Loyalist

Loyal, responsible and always scanning for what could go wrong. Sixes build trust slowly and show up fiercely for their people. All nine types

At a glance

Who has a phone charger, painkillers, and a spare umbrella in their bag? Usually a Six. Sixes are loyal, alert, funny in a dry way, and very good at spotting what could go wrong. Their minds run on "what if," which makes them brilliant planners and, on bad nights, restless ones. Some Sixes run from fear. Others run straight at it. That second group is called the counterphobic Six, and they can look like daredevils.

What drives a Type 6

Sixes want security and support, a solid floor under their feet. Their basic fear is being without support and guidance, alone when things fall apart. The passion is fear, or more exactly anxiety: a background hum of doubt that questions every plan, every person, and especially their own judgment. Sixes trust slowly, and once they trust you, they will help you move house in the rain.

At their best

Growth carries Sixes toward Type 9, and they relax. The worry quiets down. They trust their gut, stop asking five people for advice before buying a toaster, and find a calm that surprises everyone, themselves included. At this level they are the steady heart of a community: brave, warm, and loyal without the anxiety.

Under stress

Stress shifts Sixes toward Type 3. They get busy to outrun the fear. They overwork, polish their image, and try to look certain so nobody sees the panic underneath. Productivity becomes a hiding place.

The two wings

6w5: the careful analyst who reads the terms and conditions, all of them, and quotes them back to the company.

6w7: the sociable worrier who cracks jokes all night and then texts at 2 a.m. to check you got home safe.

In love and at work

Sixes in love are devoted. They need consistency more than grand gestures: show up when you said you would, every time. They may test a partner's loyalty, and the best answer is patience. At work, they are the people who spot the flaw in the plan before launch day. They do great work in safety, law, operations, and any team that runs on trust, especially under leaders who explain the why.

One honest tip

Write down your worst-case scenario. Then write down what you would do if it happened. Most Sixes discover they already have the plan. You are more capable in a crisis than your inner committee gives you credit for.
