The plan guy, the joke guy, and the bravest non-bender around.

Sokka starts the series sure that girls should not fight. Then Suki flattens him, and he asks to train with the Kyoshi Warriors, uniform and makeup included. He ends it leading the strike on the airship fleet with Suki and Toph. The guy who drank cactus juice in the desert becomes the one everyone trusts with the plan. It is one of the best growth arcs in the show.
He is the only member of Team Avatar who cannot bend, and he spends three seasons proving that it barely matters. His real weapon is a brain that never stops producing plans, puns and suspicious inventions. That is a clear ENTP, with extraverted intuition throwing out possibilities nonstop. He helps the Mechanist get a war balloon off the ground at the Northern Air Temple, he designs the Day of Black Sun invasion, and in the finale he turns a captured airship into a weapon against the rest of the fleet.
Partnering that is introverted thinking, the part that takes systems apart. Watch him study the guard routines at the Boiling Rock: he wants to know how the thing works so he can break it. When things get heavy, he makes a dumb joke so everyone can breathe, and the humor is how the group stays together.
The insecurity underneath is classic enneagram 6, with a 7 wing for the jokes. Sixes are loyal, alert to danger, and always asking whether they are good enough to keep everyone safe. In “Sokka’s Master” he confesses that he feels like the ordinary one in a group of benders, and you can tell he has carried that for a long time. He measures himself against his dad, Hakoda, and against every bender he meets, and he usually decides he comes up short. When the invasion fails, he takes it personally.
A lot of people type Sokka as ESTP, because he is scrappy and quick to improvise in a fight. I get it. Still, his favorite place is inside a strategy, a pattern or a weird idea, and that points to intuition. He improvises with concepts first and with his boomerang second.
Strengths
- Turns chaos into a workable plan
- Keeps morale up with terrible jokes
- Loyal to the bone, especially to family
- Learns fast once his ego steps aside
- Brave without any bending to lean on
Weak spots
- Doubts himself next to more gifted people
- Treats a failed plan as a personal failure
- Underestimates competent women, at first
- Overplans, then panics when the plan breaks
In relationships
Losing Yue at the North Pole stays with Sokka for the rest of the series. That is how he loves: loyally and a little dramatically, with the loss carried quietly afterward. With Suki he learns to be partners with someone who can beat him in a fight. He shows care through plans, jokes and protective big-brother energy, which Katara both needs and finds exhausting.
In conflict he argues fast and backs down when he realizes he is wrong, usually after a long, awkward pause. His best matches are steady people who laugh at his bits: Suki, who keeps him humble, Toph, who roasts him with love, and Zuko, who turns out to be a great prison-break partner.
