Kakashi Hatake shows up late to the first test he gives his new team, reads a racy novel while Naruto tries to punch him, and treats the whole thing like a chore. Then he takes all three of them apart in the bell test. That mix of shrug and precision is pure ISTP.
Under the shrug is a quiet logic engine, introverted thinking. He reads opponents mid-fight and, in the Land of Waves, copies Zabuza’s water techniques move for move. Extraverted sensing makes him one of the most precise fighters in the series.
The deeper question is why a man this capable acts so tired. I read him as an enneagram 6 with a 5 wing, and his backstory explains why. His father, Sakumo, the White Fang, abandoned a mission to save his comrades, was shamed for it by the village and even by the people he saved, and took his own life. Young Kakashi turned the rulebook into a security blanket, because Sixes look for something solid to trust. Then Obito told him that breaking rules makes you scum, but abandoning your friends makes you worse than scum, seemed to die under a boulder, and left Kakashi his eye. From then on the thing Kakashi trusts is his team. The 5 wing is the detached observer, the man with a book always between himself and the room.
Extraverted feeling, his weakest function, is the part he hides under the mask. He almost never says what he feels. Instead he stands at the memorial stone for hours, which turns out to be a big reason he is always late.
His growth is learning to forgive himself. During Pain’s invasion Kakashi dies for a while and meets his father by a campfire. He tells Sakumo he understands his choice now, and the White Fang can finally rest. Afterward he becomes the Sixth Hokage, a job he would clearly rather nap through, and does it well.
There is a strong case for Kakashi as INTP, since he is so cerebral and detached. Still, his mind is always tied to concrete action, to the fight in front of him and the exact technique that fits it, and his genius shows in execution more than theory.
Strengths

Weak spots

- Keeps people at arm's length
- Blames himself for every loss
- Can seem lazy or uninterested
In relationships
Nobody on Team 7 ever gets a speech from Kakashi. He would never tell them he cares about them, but he takes a hit for them in nearly every arc and teaches each of them in the way they need. With Might Guy he keeps up a decades-long rivalry that he pretends to find exhausting and would miss terribly if it stopped.
In conflict he deflects with a joke or a shrug until the stakes are real, then becomes very direct. His best matches are people who can wait him out: Naruto, whose openness gets past the mask, Sasuke, the student he refuses to write off, and Shikamaru, who shares his love of a quiet afternoon.
