All ISFP characters · How MBTI works

What makes a sweet boy dangerous? In Tyler Galpin’s case, the answer is that he believes his own sweetness, right up until he does not.

In season one he is the most normal person in Jericho. He works at the Weathervane, he makes Wednesday coffee, he helps her slip out during the campus lockdown, and he is the only boy who seems to like her exactly as she is. Then the last episodes reveal he is the Hyde, the creature tearing through the woods, and his Master is Marilyn Thornhill.

We type him as an ISFP. The core is a deep, private feeling life, mostly hurt. His mother is gone, his father is the sheriff who hates outcasts, and Tyler has spent years smiling over a pile of resentment. ISFPs often look easygoing while carrying intense feelings they share with almost nobody. When that resentment finally gets a voice, it comes out in the most physical way possible.

The physical side matters. Tyler lives in the moment and acts with his body: the coffee shop shifts, the dance, the transformation itself. He is not a planner. Laurel Gates plans, and he carries it out. Even his deception is mostly reactive: he lies when cornered and charms when watched.

That dependence is why he lands as a 6. Hydes imprint on a Master, and the show uses it as a metaphor for a boy desperate for someone to tell him who he is. Sixes seek security from an authority and then resent the authority that gives it. Thornhill fills that role in season one. In season two, he reunites with his mother Francoise, also a Hyde, and the old pattern repeats with someone he loves even more. In the finale Wednesday frees him, he turns on his uncle Isaac, and afterward he accepts Isadora Capri’s offer to join a pack of Hydes, so he still has someone to follow.

The best counterargument is INFJ: he hides his nature for months and plays a long game with Wednesday. But the long game was not his. He followed someone else’s script and improvised the scenes. A feeling-driven, in-the-moment ISFP fits that better.

Strengths

  • Warm and easy to be around

  • Physically brave
  • Fiercely loyal to the people he picks

Weak spots

  • Follows a strong leader without question
  • Lies smoothly when cornered
  • Defines himself through whoever controls him
  • Takes his pain out on others

In relationships

Tyler flirts like a golden retriever and holds grudges like a vault. In a relationship he is attentive and patient, and he notices the small details: the coffee order, the bad day, the way you hold your shoulders. The problem is that he needs someone to follow, and he will choose the person who asks for the most control.

Healthy matches would be steady, warm people who make no demands: Eugene's gentle loyalty, Xavier's honesty about his own anger. Laurel Gates is his worst possible match and his most natural magnet, which is the whole tragedy of his story.
