Picture a farm kid on Tatooine at the edge of the homestead while two suns go down, wishing he were anywhere else. That shot tells you most of what you need. Luke is a dreamer stuck in a chore list, and the dream is about meaning, about being part of something that matters the way he imagines his father did.
That is why INFP fits. Introverted feeling sits at the center of him, a set of private convictions nobody can argue him out of. By Return of the Jedi, Yoda and Obi-Wan both treat Vader as a lost cause. Luke refuses to. He walks onto the second Death Star alone because he feels there is still good in his father, and when the Emperor offers him everything, he throws his lightsaber aside and declares himself a Jedi like his father. There is no strategy in that. It is pure values. Extraverted intuition shows in how he leaps at what could be: switching off his targeting computer in the trench run, flying to a swamp planet because a ghost told him to.
The weak spot is extraverted thinking, the cold logistics. He races to Cloud City with his training half done, against every piece of practical advice, and loses a hand for it.
As a 9 with a 1 wing, he wants peace inside and out, and his worst moments come when that peace breaks. The Last Jedi shows the dark version. One flash of fear over Ben Solo’s bed, one second with a lit saber, and Luke spends years on Ahch-To, cut off from the Force, drinking green milk straight from a sea creature rather than face the people he thinks he failed. Nines withdraw, and Luke withdraws to the edge of the map. Then he shows up on Crait, calm and almost smiling, without even being there in body, and buys the Resistance its escape.
The best case against me is ENFP, because young Luke is restless, talkative and eager. Fair. But his energy points inward, toward a cause he believes in, rather than outward toward new people and options, and old Luke is about as introverted as a person can get. INFP it is.
Strengths
- Believes in people others have written off
- Brave when his values are on the line
- Fast learner once something matters to him
- Calm, patient presence in his later years
Weak spots
- Rushes in before his training is done
- Hides from failure instead of facing it
- Whines when life feels stuck
In relationships
Watch Luke in a crowd and he is the one drifting toward the person nobody else trusts. He forms bonds through shared causes and long talks about what could be, and he forgives faster than is probably wise. His sister and his best friend get his loyalty without conditions, and his father gets it even after a lightsaber took his hand.
He works best with people who make his dreams practical. Leia gives him the plan, Han gives him nerve and sarcasm, and Yoda gives him the discipline he resists at first and needs most.
