At a glance
You cried at a commercial about a lonely robot vacuum. You'd also walk out of a job on principle with no backup plan. Soft and stubborn in the same body: that's the INFP, and the people who underestimate the stubborn part usually learn about it the hard way.
How an INFP thinks
Your leading function is introverted feeling, Fi. It's an inner compass that asks one question about everything: does this sit right with me? You don't borrow your values from the crowd. You build them slowly, test them against your own experience, and once they're set they hold up the whole house.
Extraverted intuition, Ne, is the auxiliary, and it's playful. It spins possibilities, metaphors and alternate lives, which is why your daydreams have plot twists and a soundtrack. Third is introverted sensing, Si: nostalgia, cozy rituals, the playlist from that one summer. Fourth is extraverted thinking, Te, the part that budgets, schedules and enforces deadlines. It shows up late and slightly clumsy, like a substitute teacher.
Strengths
You're empathetic without performing it, creative in a deeply personal way and loyal to the people and causes you love. You notice the person left out of the group photo. You can write, draw or say the thing other people feel and can't name.
Blind spots
You can wait for the perfect moment, the perfect partner or the perfect career and let several good ones walk past. Criticism of your work can feel like criticism of your soul. And you may agree out loud while disagreeing in private, then let the resentment grow in the dark.
In love and friendship
You love deeply and selectively. You want someone who finds your inner world interesting, not someone who tolerates it. Friends get handwritten notes, the perfect song recommendation and fierce defense when somebody wrongs them. You need plenty of alone time to refill, and that isn't rejection.
At work and school
You do your best work when it means something: writing, art, psychology, social work, teaching, animal care, libraries, nonprofits. Office politics and rigid metrics drain you. A quiet corner, flexible hours and a mission you believe in beat a fancy title every time.
At their best, under stress
When you're well, you're kind, original and brave in quiet ways, the person who stands up when it costs something. After a long stretch of strain, inferior Te can burst out. You turn harsh and bossy, alphabetize the spice rack at midnight, or decide everyone around you is incompetent. It feels like a stranger has borrowed your face.
One honest tip
Finished counts. Publish the story, send the application, have the awkward talk. Your values deserve a life outside your head.
