Gomez Addams cannot be in the same room as his wife without kissing her arm. That is not a bit, and it is not for show. That is the whole man.
He reads as an ESFP, and everything about him starts with the senses. He wants the dance, the duel, the dramatic entrance, the wine poured too full. When he talks about Morticia, he describes her like a feast. When he visits Nevermore, he is the parent having the best time, delighted by the gloom and the gossip while his daughter quietly dies of embarrassment.
Under the noise is a private, heavy loyalty. Gomez decides what matters to him and does not budge. He would die for Morticia, he would fight anyone who insulted Wednesday, and he carries old friendships around like heirlooms. Season two digs into one of those, his bond with Isaac Night, his Nevermore roommate and best friend, and shows how badly a trusting heart can be used.
His weak spot is the long view. Gomez does not plan, he reacts. When Sheriff Galpin arrests him over the decades-old death of Garrett Gates, he has no strategy at all. His daughter becomes the detective, and his wife becomes the strategist, and Gomez becomes the man in a cell asking whether everyone is all right.
He fits a 7 with an 8 wing. Sevens chase delight and avoid pain by filling every hour with something wonderful. The 8 wing brings the swagger: the sword in his hand, the fearless tango, the instant readiness to fight. What he avoids is sitting with grief, and the Garrett story shows how long a 7 can leave a painful door closed.
He does not change a lot over two seasons, and that is fine. Gomez is the fixed point in the family. Everyone else spins around him, and he keeps loving them at full volume.
ENFP is the strongest alternative. Gomez is a romantic, a poet of sorts, a man who sees beauty everywhere. Still, his romance is physical: fencing, dancing, touching, feasting. He lives in what he can taste and hold, not in what might be. ESFP stays.
Strengths
- Loves out loud and without shame
- Brings the party to any gathering
- Defends his family with total courage
- Loyal to old friends for decades
Weak spots
- Reacts first and thinks much later
- Avoids painful history at any cost
- Too trusting of charming people
In relationships
Picture a man who serenades his wife across a crowded room and means every word of it. Gomez treats love as the main event, every day. He is generous, loud and unembarrassed, and he assumes the best of everyone until they give him a reason not to, then a little longer.
Morticia completes him, obviously, and keeps him from drifting into total chaos. Enid would be his favorite of Wednesday's friends, because she matches his energy without trying. Bianca, of all people, would earn his respect after one fencing bout, because Gomez loves an opponent with style.
