Sandor Clegane’s face tells you his backstory before he does. When he was a boy, his older brother Gregor caught him playing with a toy and shoved his face into a fire. Nobody punished Gregor. Their father covered it up. Sandor grew up deciding that knights are liars, vows are decoration, and the only truth is who can kill whom. That is the Hound in one sentence.
On the enneagram he is an 8 with a 9 wing. Eights armor up against weakness, and the Hound’s armor is cynicism and strength. His one crack is fire, which he fears more than death. At the Blackwater, when the bay goes up in wildfire, he walks away from the king’s service entirely. The 9 wing shows in how much he wants to be left alone. Living with Septon Ray’s peaceful community, chopping wood, is the calmest we ever see him.
He types as an ISTP, and the blunt honesty is the tell. He refuses knighthood, mocks every song about chivalry, and says out loud what others only think. Survival in the moment is his craft: food, drink, a sword and the next fight. He travels with Arya through the Riverlands and treats almost every problem as something to hit, eat or rob.
Softness lives under that, and it is where his most surprising scenes are. He saves Sansa during the riot in King’s Landing. During the Blackwater he offers to take her north. He robs a farmer who gave him and Arya shelter, then, seasons later, comes back to bury that farmer and his daughter, who starved without the silver. He cannot say any of this out loud. He just digs.
His growth is slow and real. He goes from Joffrey’s dog to a man fighting the dead beyond the Wall. In the end he faces Gregor in a collapsing tower and goes into the flames himself, so his last act is meeting his greatest fear head on. Before that, he tells Arya to leave revenge behind and live, which is the kindest thing he says in eight seasons.
Some fans call him a counterphobic Six, citing his suspicion and his loyalty tests. It is an interesting case. I keep Eight because his reaction to fear is to dominate it, and he never once looks for someone else to trust for safety.

In relationships
Sandor protects Sansa in King's Landing when nobody else will, and his long road with Arya turns into the closest thing he has to family. He shows love by guarding you and insulting you at the same time. He never says any of it out loud, and that is exactly how you know it is real.
In conflict he goes straight for the truth and rarely softens it. He needs people who can take his bluntness without crumbling. Arya is his perfect match, Sansa reminds him he can be gentle, and Brienne earns his respect by beating him in a fair fight.
