MBTI sorts personalities into 16 types using four pairs of preferences. What is MBTI?

Enthusiastic, imaginative and endlessly curious about people. ENFPs bring energy to a room and ideas to everything, then chase the next one.

At a glance

You went out for milk and came back with a new friend, a business idea and a flyer for a pottery class. The milk? Forgot it. ENFPs live as if every corner might hide something wonderful, and often enough, it does.

How an ENFP thinks

The lead function is extraverted intuition, Ne. It sees potential everywhere: in people, places, half-finished ideas and that weird abandoned building downtown. Conversations with you hop like a frog across lily pads, and somehow they land somewhere worth being. Introverted feeling, Fi, is the anchor. Under the sparkle is a firm sense of right and wrong, and you won't trade it for popularity.

Extraverted thinking, Te, is your third function. It kicks in when you care enough about a goal, turning you into a surprisingly organized campaigner for a cause, a friend's fundraiser or a protest sign that's spelled correctly. Introverted sensing, Si, sits last: routines, records, remembering to eat lunch. That's where the chaos lives.

Strengths

Your enthusiasm is contagious, your empathy is real and your creativity turns small moments into memories. You give people permission to be weird. You spot talent in others early and cheer for it loudly, sometimes before they believe in it themselves.

Blind spots

The idea phase is your favorite, and the maintenance phase is where projects go to die. You overcommit because saying no feels like closing a door forever. Big feelings can swing you from "this is the best thing ever" to "I'm a total fraud" in a single afternoon.

In love and friendship

You fall hard for minds and stories. You want a partner who explores with you and still feels like home at the end of the day. As a friend you're the one sending voice notes at midnight about a documentary on octopuses. You need room to roam, plus honest reassurance when the doubts flare.

At work and school

You often excel where ideas meet people: marketing, journalism, teaching, counseling, entrepreneurship, entertainment. Repetitive tasks and strict hierarchy suffocate you. A deadline, a study buddy and a little public accountability will do more for you than any productivity app.

At their best, under stress

Give an ENFP sleep, purpose and a bit of structure and you get a warm, brave encourager who makes life bigger for everyone nearby. Take those away and inferior Si can grip you. You obsess over one detail, convince yourself a headache is something sinister, or replay a past mistake in painful high definition. Your usual sense of possibility goes dark.

One honest tip

Keep a "parking lot" notebook for new ideas, and promote one to action only when an old one is finished. Your future self will send flowers.
