All ENFP characters · How MBTI works

Eddie Munson spent a single season on Stranger Things and walked out of it as one of the most loved characters in the show. He stomps across a lunch table, rants about jocks and cheerleaders, and welcomes two freshmen into the Hellfire Club. Within an episode you know exactly who he is: a showman who protects the outcasts by being louder than everyone who picks on them.

I type him as an ENFP. Extraverted intuition makes him all theater and possibility, running D&D like a rock concert, twisting the plot, delighting in every scream from the table. Underneath it sits a fiercely private moral center. He leans into the freak label because he decided long ago that fitting in was a worse fate than being hated, and he looks after Mike and Dustin like a weird older brother.

The enneagram 7 is the fear underneath. Sevens dodge pain with excitement, jokes and motion. Eddie is a third-time senior who would rather crack a joke about it than look at it. When Chrissy dies in front of him in his trailer, his first instinct is to run, and he hides out while the town hunts him. The 6 wing shows in how fast he bonds to the group that takes him in, and how badly he wants to deserve them.

Humor is his cover. He cracks jokes in front of a hostile crowd, leans on the devil-worshipper rumor when it is used against him, and keeps his fear of letting people down where nobody can see it. The best counterargument is ESFP, because his performances are so physical, from the guitar to the tabletop antics. I take it seriously. But Eddie lives in stories. He talks about life as a campaign, about heroes and cowards, about the shape of the tale he is stuck in. That is intuition talking.

His arc is a self-declared coward deciding not to be one. In the Upside Down he plays Master of Puppets on the roof of his trailer to draw the bats away, then stays and fights. He dies in Dustin’s arms, telling him this time he stayed. At graduation, Dustin makes sure Hawkins hears it.

Strengths

  • Makes outsiders feel like they belong
  • Born performer and storyteller
  • Kind under the leather and noise
  • Rises to the moment when it counts

Weak spots

  • Runs from danger and responsibility at first
  • Leans into a reputation that hurts him
  • Hides fear behind jokes

In relationships

Eddie gives his Hellfire kids a place to be loud and weird, and he adopts Dustin and Mike almost instantly. His bond with Dustin becomes the heart of season four, two showmen who see each other clearly. There is also an odd, sweet trust with Chrissy, the cheerleader who comes to him for help when nobody else noticed she was struggling.

He handles conflict with jokes and big speeches, then hides when it gets too real. His best matches are loyal and unafraid of weird: Dustin, his little buddy, Steve, the jock he learned to trust, and Max, who would trade insults with him for fun.
