Curious, hilarious, and absolutely sure he can explain the monster.

Consider the evidence. Dustin adopts a baby Demogorgon and names it after a musketeer. He builds a radio tower to reach a girlfriend in Utah that nobody believes exists. He sings an entire Neverending Story duet over the airwaves while the world is ending, because Suzie demanded it as the price of a code. If you are looking for an enneagram 7 in Hawkins, you can stop here.
Sevens chase novelty and keep busy to avoid pain, and the 6 wing adds a loyal worrier. Dustin cracks jokes in the worst places and takes on wild side quests, but he also wants badly to belong, which is why coming home from science camp to find Mike and Lucas glued to their girlfriends stings more than he admits. Notice how often his humor is a tool. A joke buys time, a nickname makes a monster less scary, and a ridiculous pet gives him something to protect. Dustin processes the world by naming it, then solving it.
The MBTI is ENTP, and the mind does the work. In season one he notices that every compass needle drifts toward the same spot and realizes the gate must be there. In season four he notices his compass going wonky again and leads the group to the gate under Lover’s Lake. His first move in a crisis is a hypothesis. When everyone panics, Dustin draws a diagram.
Some fans say ENFP, because he is so warm and openly emotional, and his grief over Eddie is one of the most moving things in the show. But the grief arrives after the theory, not before it. That is thinking first, and it puts him with the ENTPs.
His growth hits hardest in season four, when Eddie dies in his arms in the Upside Down. The kid who always had a joke goes silent. In season five he is beaten at Eddie’s grave for defending him, and at graduation he gives a speech the school never cleared, a Hellfire Lives shirt under his gown. The Seven learns to stay with pain long enough to stand up for something.
Strengths
- Turns panic into a working theory
- Makes friends with almost anyone
- Hilarious under pressure
- Loyal to friends the town writes off
Weak spots
- Keeps secret pets and secret plans, badly
- Talks over people when excited
- Hides hurt behind jokes
In relationships
Dustin brags about Suzie until the whole party doubts she exists, then proves them wrong over the radio in front of everyone. That is how he loves: loudly and with total faith. His friendship with Steve is one of the best things in the show, a hair-care mentor and a little brother who each teach the other to be braver.
In conflict Dustin argues hard, gets his feelings hurt, and comes back with snacks and a new theory. His best matches enjoy his chaos: Steve, his babysitter turned best friend, Eddie, who made him feel like a hero, and Lucas, who rolls his eyes and keeps showing up.
