All ENTP characters · How MBTI works

Picture Loki in the weapons vault in the first Thor film, holding the Casket of Ancient Winters as his hand turns blue. He has just learned he was born a Frost Giant, the monster Asgardian parents use in bedtime stories. Every scheme he runs for the next decade starts in that moment.

That wound is why I type him as a Four with a Three wing. Fours feel that something about them is fundamentally different and flawed, and they ache to be seen for who they are. Loki was raised next to the golden son and never felt chosen. The wing turns that ache into performance: horns, speeches about glorious purpose, an invasion of New York with an army on loan. He does not want power so much as proof that he matters.

The trickster’s engine is ENTP. He spots angles, illusions and alternate plans everywhere. He lets Frost Giants into Asgard to ruin Thor’s coronation. He gets himself captured on purpose in The Avengers. He fakes his own death in The Dark World and spends years ruling Asgard disguised as Odin. A cold logic keeps every lie consistent, mostly.

His charm is a scalpel, used on Thor, on Natasha, on anyone with a weak spot. Underneath, he is tied to a past he cannot forgive. Frigga is his anchor, and losing her is one of the few times we see him without a mask.

The Loki series gives him his best growth. At the TVA he watches footage of his own life, including the moment he helped cause his mother’s death, and the performance finally stops. Over two seasons the variant who wanted a throne ends up sitting on one at the end of time, holding the timelines together so his friends can exist. A Four finds his purpose by giving himself away.

Plenty of people type Loki as INTJ, citing the long cons and the brooding. Fair. Still, his plans are improvised and rewritten constantly, he loves an audience, and he will try three ideas before lunch. That is a trickster, not a patient strategist.

Strengths

  • Quick, creative and hard to outthink in a con
  • Charming enough to talk his way out of anything
  • Reads people's insecurities instantly

Weak spots

  • Lies by reflex, even when the truth would work
  • Turns hurt into revenge plots
  • Craves recognition he cannot ask for directly
  • Betrays allies before they can betray him

In relationships

He will stab Thor, fake his death, and then show up to help at the worst possible moment, because Loki cannot say he cares any other way. His bond with Frigga is the softest thing about him, and in the Loki series, his friendships with Mobius and Sylvie teach him what being chosen feels like.

Conflict with Loki is a chess match where he also cheats. He needs people who see through the act without giving up on him: Thor Odinson, the brother who keeps forgiving him, Wanda Maximoff, who got her powers from his old scepter, and Natasha Romanoff, the one person who beat him at his own game.
