The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes opens with eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow eating cabbage in a crumbling penthouse while pretending to the world that his family is still rich. Snow will do almost anything, including murder, before he lets anyone see him lose.
As a mentor in the tenth Hunger Games, he is handed the girl from District 12, Lucy Gray Baird, which he takes as an insult. Then he sees what she can do with a song and a crowd, and he realizes she could be his ticket. He cheats for her, falls for her, and keeps calculating the entire time.
That calculating streak is introverted intuition paired with extraverted thinking. He absorbs Dr. Gaul’s view that people are violent by nature and must be controlled, and he builds a whole career on it. Decades later he runs the Games as a tool of fear and uses the Third Quarter Quell to drag Katniss back into the arena.
On the enneagram he fits 3, the achiever, with a 4 wing. Threes need to be seen as successful, and Snow’s terror of looking poor drives the entire prequel. He betrays his friend Sejanus Plinth, whose rebel plans he reports, and Sejanus is hanged. Each betrayal protects his image and his climb.
Adult Snow, played by Donald Sutherland, is the same man with the fear buried deeper. In the books he wears roses with a doctored scent to mask the smell of blood from his mouth sores, the price of poisoning enemies by sharing their drinks. The films keep the roses and add scenes the novels cannot show, like his talks with Seneca Crane about why a little hope is useful and too much is dangerous.
Does he change? Only in skill. The young Snow loses Lucy Gray in the woods after shooting at her, and he decides love is a risk he cannot afford. The old Snow dies laughing after Katniss kills Coin instead of him, coughing blood as the crowd surges forward.
Some fans call him ENTJ, and the older Snow does command a room with ease. The young Snow makes the case for introversion, though. He keeps nearly every plan inside his head, rehearses conversations privately, and shows people only a polished version. Tom Blyth’s version in the 2023 film makes that inner calculation almost visible.

In relationships
Who does Snow trust? Tigris, his cousin, and Grandma'am, and even they get the polished version. With Lucy Gray he comes closest to love, and the moment she becomes a risk he reaches for a gun. Every friendship he has is also a ledger.
In conflict he never raises his voice. He smiles, remembers and waits. The oddest relationship of his life is with Katniss, whom he openly promises never to lie to, and he keeps that promise to the end. His best matches, in the darkest sense, are fellow strategists: Coin, his mirror image, Lucy Gray, who outplays him, and Katniss, who finally does.
