Sheev Palpatine personality type: INTJ

The scariest thing about Palpatine is not the lightning. It is that for three movies he is the polite senator from Naboo, smiling, patient, a little grandfatherly, while he runs both sides of a war he started. Patience on that scale tells you more about his mind than any cackle.

He is an INTJ, and his plans prove it. Introverted intuition is the engine: he sees the end state, a galaxy under one throne, and works backward for decades. He lets the Trade Federation blockade his own planet to win sympathy votes, gets emergency powers by having someone else propose them, and has a clone army waiting years before the war that needs it. Extraverted thinking carries out the plan. Every person in his orbit is a tool with a use and an expiry date: Maul, Dooku, Grievous, and eventually Vader himself.

The crack is his weakest function, extraverted sensing. He is brilliant at the long game and careless with the sudden physical moment. In the throne room he is so busy enjoying his speech and his lightning that he forgets the father standing a few steps away. He makes the same mistake on Exegol, where he never sees what one more Skywalker and a Solo can do in the moment.

Underneath sits an 8 with a 7 wing. Eights want control and fear being controlled. Palpatine does not want a role in the system, he wants to be the system, and when death gets in the way he cheats it with cloning and dark science and comes back for another round. The 7 wing explains the glee, the grin he wears while he tempts Anakin at the opera, the way he savors other people’s suffering like a good dessert. Even his downfall is very 8: he would rather be struck down by Rey with everyone watching than give up a single inch of power.

Could he be ENTJ? He is a commander, so the case is there. But ENTJs tend to build in public. Palpatine builds in shadow, for years, alone, and only shows his face once the trap has already snapped shut. That patient, private, master-plan mind is INTJ through and through.
