Lucy Gray Baird gets there after slipping a snake down the mayor’s daughter’s dress, then sings a defiant song to the cameras in a rainbow ruffled dress. Within minutes she owns the tenth Hunger Games, and she has not even reached the Capitol yet.

ENFP is the type for someone who improvises with people the way others improvise with weapons. Extraverted intuition makes her quick and playful, always spotting a new angle: turn an interview into a concert, use the arena snakes that know her scent. Her introverted feeling is stubbornly her own. She is a Covey, a traveling musician, and she refuses to let the Capitol decide who she is.

Her enneagram is 4 with a strong 3 wing, an artist who wants to be seen exactly as she is and also wants the applause. Fours tend to feel like outsiders, and the Covey live slightly apart from everyone else in District 12. She writes her own songs, including The Hanging Tree, which Katniss sings decades later without knowing where it came from. That link is one of the best things Collins did in the prequel.

Is she sincere with Snow, or playing him? The book leaves it open on purpose. She cares for him, or something close to it, but she also figures out what he did to Sejanus and slips away from him. The 2023 film, with Rachel Zegler, follows the book here: in both she walks out of the cabin into the rain and is never found. Collins never says where she went. Either way she ends the story as a question mark, which is exactly what a Covey performer would want.

An INFP reading is reasonable, given how private her feelings are. I still go with the extravert. She thinks out loud, wins people over in real time, and is most herself in front of an audience, whether it is a crowd at the Hob or the whole Capitol watching on screen. Take away her stage and she builds a new one.
