Tyson’s first big moment in The Sea of Monsters is catching flaming dodgeballs with his bare hands. Giants posing as students have turned gym class into an ambush, and the huge, gentle kid everybody picks on steps in front of Percy without a second thought. Fire does not hurt him. Being mocked does.
He is a young cyclops and a son of Poseidon, and before Meriwether College Prep took him in as a kind of charity project, he lived on the streets. Percy was his only friend at school, and Tyson hid the scars on his back from the other kids. Then Poseidon claims him at camp, and Percy, to his lasting shame, spends days telling people Tyson is barely related to him.
Tyson is an ESFJ. His world runs on people and on keeping them happy, and he remembers every kindness anyone has ever shown him. He gives hugs that nearly crack ribs. He names his hippocampus Rainbow and calls pegasi chicken ponies. He makes Percy a wristwatch that turns into a shield, and what he wants most is for his big brother to be proud of him.
Love expressed as help is the type 2 pattern, and it fits him exactly. Twos give and give and hope to be wanted back. When the CSS Birmingham is tearing itself apart near Charybdis and Scylla, Tyson goes below to keep the overheating engines going, because heat cannot hurt him. The ship gets through, then explodes, and he seems to die. Percy’s guilt in that moment changes their relationship for good.
By The Last Olympian, he is not the crying kid anymore. He leads Poseidon’s cyclopes into battle with a mouth full of peanut butter, so his war cry comes out mangled, and the whole army charges yelling peanut butter. Poseidon’s army makes him a general. Same heart, more spine.
ISFJ is the obvious alternative, and it is close. But Tyson’s warmth pours outward all the time. He talks to everyone, cries in public and wants the whole group happy as well as safe. In the Disney+ series, Daniel Diemer plays him in season two.

In relationships
Tyson loves with his whole body, which is a problem when you are a cyclops and the hug is coming for someone's ribs. He never holds Percy's early embarrassment against him, and that gentleness is what finally pushes Percy to grow up a little.
He needs people who are proud of him out loud. Percy learns to be, and races a chariot with Tyson's help. Annabeth gets past her childhood fear of cyclopes and bakes Percy a lumpy blue birthday cupcake with him. Grover, once his own fear of cyclopes fades, turns out to be a natural friend.
