All ESTP characters · How MBTI works

Jang Deok-su arrives as a gangster running from gambling debts, and it takes him only a few days to become the most feared man in the dorm. He kills a player over extra food, the prize pool grows, and the whole room suddenly understands a piece of arithmetic nobody wanted to say out loud.

That is ESTP at its worst. Read the room, find the lever, pull it now. Deok-su lives in the immediate moment, and physical force is his currency. When a player who trades with the guards tips him off about the next game, he builds a team of big men for tug of war and turns Han Mi-nyeo away without a second thought.

The drive underneath is an 8’s: control everything, show no weakness, never be the one who gets pushed around. He leads the night attack on the other players. He leans on his henchmen and drops them the moment they stop being useful, and in marbles he beats one of his own crew. Loyalty flows up to him, never down.

His treatment of Mi-nyeo shows the whole cycle in miniature. She smuggles in a lighter and helps him through the dalgona game. She sleeps with him. He discards her as soon as muscle matters more than cleverness, and she promises, very clearly, that she will make him pay for it.

Then comes the glass bridge, the one game that cannot be bullied or bought. Deok-su refuses to move and makes other players test the panels ahead of him. The tough guy turns out to be the most frightened person on the bridge. Mi-nyeo grabs him, and they go down together. It is the only debt he ever pays in full.

Some readers type him ESTJ, since he likes hierarchy and runs a crew. But an ESTJ builds systems and keeps deals because rules matter to him. Deok-su breaks every deal the moment a better one appears, and his idea of a plan rarely stretches past the next meal. He does not run a system. He runs whatever works this minute, and when nothing works, he has nothing left.

  • Uses people and throws them away
  • Violent at the first excuse
  • Never imagines being outplayed

In relationships

What does loyalty mean to Deok-su? Mostly, being useful to Deok-su. His crew follows him because he is strong, and he drops anyone who stops paying off. It works beautifully, until he needs someone to stand next to him when he is scared.

Mi-nyeo is the cautionary tale: she gave him help, got thrown away, and was the one who ended him. On paper he would get along with Thanos, who enjoys intimidation just as much. He would respect Hyun-ju's toughness while hating that he cannot frighten her. Sang-woo is the only ally cold enough to keep him in check, and smart enough to drop him first.
