Stephenie Meyer published Twilight in 2005, and across four novels Bella Swan goes from her first day at Forks High School to a tense standoff with the Volturi. Five films brought Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner along and turned a rainy Washington town into a tourist stop.

Take away the fangs and the fur and you get a family drama about control, guilt and who gets to choose. Edward wants Bella safe, Bella wants forever, and Rosalie can’t stop pointing out what forever costs. Nearly every big turn in the saga comes from a clash like that, which is why the cast is so fun to type.
