All ENTJ characters · How MBTI works

Kate Sharma arrives in London with a job. She is there to get her younger sister Edwina married to a man who deserves her. Kate is not on the market herself, thank you. She is the manager. That stance tells you most of what you need. Kate is an ENTJ who turns everything into a project with a goal and a list of obstacles. Edwina’s season is a campaign. Suitors are vetted like contractors. When Anthony comes calling, Kate interviews him, rejects him, and steers Edwina away from him with the efficiency of a general. She has already mapped out her own future: once Edwina is safely married, Kate goes back to India, alone.

On the enneagram she reads as an 8 with a 9 wing. Eights protect, take charge, and treat vulnerability as a danger. After her father died, Kate helped raise Edwina alongside her stepmother Mary, and she has been carrying the family ever since. The 9 wing is her steadiness. She does not need to dominate a room. She simply refuses to be pushed around in it.

Then there is pall mall. The family game at Aubrey Hall turns into a war between Kate and Anthony, mallets, mud and all. She is physical, competitive and alive in the moment. She rides hard at dawn and loves a contest she can win. The part she hides from everyone, herself included, is what she wants. Kate rarely asks. When she finally admits she loves Anthony, it comes out like a confession of a crime.

Her arc is about letting someone carry her for once. After she is thrown from her horse, she wakes with Anthony beside her and has to accept that being cared for is not a defeat. By the end of season two she has a husband who argues with her at full volume, which is exactly what she needed. Plenty of viewers call Kate an ESTJ, and her duty to family supports it. I keep her as ENTJ because she lives in the future she is planning, and she bends custom whenever it suits her, from solo rides at dawn to telling a viscount exactly what she thinks of him at their first meeting.

Strengths

  • Plans for the people she loves
  • Fearless in an argument or a contest
  • Sees through charm and flattery
  • Keeps her head when others lose theirs

Weak spots

  • Treats her own needs as optional
  • Refuses help until it is almost too late
  • Competes even when nobody asked
  • Keeps secrets to protect people

In relationships

Kate will vet your suitors, check your finances, and stand between you and anything that might hurt you, including the truth, which is how she ends up keeping secrets from Edwina. Her love language is a well-executed plan. She loves by guarding.

Fights with Kate are open warfare, and she respects anyone who fights back fairly. Anthony is the obvious match, a mirror who finally makes her rest. Lady Danbury, who sponsored her season, sees her clearly and enjoys her nerve, and Eloise would be the friend who argues with her for fun until dawn.
