All ENFJ characters · How MBTI works

Violet Bridgerton named her eight children in alphabetical order, Anthony through Hyacinth. You could read that as a love of order. Watch her for ten minutes and you will see it was more about love of a project: raise every one of these people into a happy life, preferably with a love match attached.

That is the ENFJ at work. She reads the emotional state of everyone around her and moves to tend it. She spots what her children want before they do.

Violet sees the spark between Anthony and Kate while Anthony is still busy courting the wrong sister, and she quietly arranges for Simon and Daphne to keep crossing paths. She also has a long view of each child’s nature. She does not want them to fit the ton’s mold. She wants each one to become the most complete version of themselves.

Her blind spot is the plain, technical explanation. The best example is her talk with Daphne before the wedding night, a speech so vague it explains nothing at all. Violet can read a heart across a ballroom and still cannot say the practical thing out loud. The hostess in her is the lighter side: the parties, the flowers, the balls she loves to plan, and in season three, the flirtation with Lord Marcus Anderson that reminds her she has a life of her own.

Giving is how she builds her sense of self, and Violet is a 2 with a 1 wing. When Edmund died, she fell apart with grief, and young Anthony had to hold the family together. Since then she has poured herself into the children. The 1 wing is the principle under the warmth. She insists on love matches when society rewards money and titles, and she says so plainly.

Her growth comes in season three, when her younger children start leaving home and she has to ask what is left for her besides motherhood. The answer turns out to be: quite a lot.

ESFJ is the obvious alternative, and Violet does love family tradition. Still, her big moves are about who her children could become rather than how things have always been done. She breaks custom to push love over status, and that future focus points to an ENFJ.

Strengths

  • Sees what each person needs
  • Warm, wise and endlessly patient
  • Defends love matches against the whole ton
  • Hosts a ball like nobody else

Weak spots

  • Meddles in romances that are not hers
  • Puts her own needs last for years
  • Dodges awkward practical conversations
  • Leans on her children for purpose

In relationships

Violet's marriage to Edmund is the love story the whole family measures itself against, and his loss shaped everything after. She remembers every child's quirks, every friend's heartbreak, and the exact moment two people should be seated together at dinner. Loving is her full-time occupation.

In conflict she is gentle but immovable, and her quiet disappointment works better than any lecture. Her best matches are people she can nurture and be nurtured by: Daphne, her mirror, Anthony, the son who carried too much too young, and Benedict, whose drifting heart she trusts completely.
