Jacob Black is the guy who shows up. Bella needs a mechanic, her heart is in pieces, she wants to ride a motorcycle for reasons she will not explain: Jacob is there, grinning.
That warm, physical, in-the-moment energy is the ESFP signature. Extraverted sensing leads. He lives in his body, runs hot in every sense, and solves problems with his hands. He would rather fix the bike than talk about why she wants the bike, and most of the warmth in New Moon comes from Jacob refusing to let Bella sit alone in the dark.
Under the jokes sits introverted feeling, a private moral code that can flip from sunny to furious very fast. In Eclipse he kisses Bella after she has told him no, and she breaks her hand punching him. When he learns about the engagement, he threatens to throw himself into the battle and get killed. Those are not his finest moments. They are what happens when a feeler runs into an emotion he cannot fix by doing something.
The enneagram 8 explains the bigger arc. Eights want control of their own lives and hate being commanded. Back in New Moon he dreads Sam Uley’s gang before he ever phases. In Breaking Dawn, when the pack decides to kill Bella and her unborn child, Jacob claims his birthright as the true alpha and walks away from Sam, with Seth Clearwater following first and Leah joining later.
Notice he never wanted to be the boss. He wanted to be free, and taking the alpha role was the only exit left. That is very eight: protect the people you claimed and refuse any leash.
The imprint on Renesmee rewires him overnight. The boy who marched over to kill Edward in Breaking Dawn ends up living around the Cullens and calling Edward a friend. Some readers hate how fast it happens, but it fits a type that lives in the present. When the present changes, so does Jacob.
But: a lot of fans type him ESTP, and the bluntness and risk-taking back that up. Look at where his choices come from, though. He breaks from the pack because something feels wrong in his gut, and his apologies, to Bella and to Charlie, come fast and heartfelt. That is feeling, so ESFP holds.

In relationships
Jacob loves out loud. He tells Bella how he feels, asks her to choose him, and makes no secret that he thinks Edward is the wrong answer. When it works, he is the friend who drags you out of a bad winter. When it does not, he sulks, storms off, and once runs off in wolf form rather than face a wedding invitation.
He matches best with people who can take his heat and give it back. Bella anchors him for most of the saga, Emmett would happily turn every argument into a wrestling match, and Charlie openly prefers him to Edward.
